Isaco Type started as a childhood hobby. Yes, it sounds cliché — one of those romantic origin stories, blah blah blah. But it’s true. I always loved drawing, and around age 11, my favorite pastime was creating alphabets for languages I invented myself. A self-confessed nerd, through and through.

We had at home a massive encyclopedia — the kind with dozens of volumes — and I’d spend hours exploring the etymology of words. At some point, I realized I could combine that love of words with drawing, and that’s how I gradually became a little type designer. That interest deepened in design school. I released the first typeface in 2009 — and it’s been a joyful journey ever since.

The hobby became serious work — but that same thrill of bringing something new into the world is still very much alive. Designing typefaces is an adventure, with everything an adventure entails: challenge, curiosity, running into obstacles, solving small puzzles, winning, failing, and starting over. It’s the exhilarating game of form-against-form, a constant exercise in training the eye — often contemplative, alchemical, almost ascetic.

Ok, that might sound like an overstatement. But somehow, that’s how Isaco Type keeps pursuing the perfect typeface, striving to deliver the best to those who use our fonts. And perhaps it’s that pursuit that has carried our typefaces into the projects of designers around the world — and earned recognition at type and design showcases such as the Tipos Latinos Biennial, the Latin American Design Awards, and the Brazilian Graphic Design Biennials.
